Fade Out is an original Atari 2600 game being developed by Christopher Tumber (Space Instigators) and GBA artist Adam Tierney. In Fade Out you play one of two assassins, hunting each other down in an abandoned factory. What makes gameplay unique is that the factory is alive with moving platforms, and the assassins are the same two colors as their background. Because of this, players are free to move about each level in the 'shadows', hidden from their enemy. Options include difficulty settings, color selection and handicaps in player speed, energy and weapon strength. The game is currently 2-player only and plans are for it to be released later this year. You can view screenshots and a cartridge mockup here, and discuss the game in our Homebrew Discussion Forum. Yet another lost Atari 2600 prototype has been discovered, this one revealed at last weekend's NWCGE gaming expo. The game, IXION, appears to be a title Sega was working on but never released. Gameplay (which appears complete) involves filling the screen with squares and catching a "magic square" in order to spell out the letters IXION. Sega even created an arcade version of the game, and a version for the Atari 8-bit computers exists as well, but neither of these appear to have been officially released either. You can learn more about this prototype by following our Atari 2600 Forum, and by visiting the NWCGE web site, where a full review should be posted soon. Discuss in our Forum with other visitors...
