With the release of the Stelladaptor and Cuttle Cart II, Paul Slocum has decided to release the ROM for his popular Atari 2600 homebrew Marble Craze. The concept for Marble Craze arose from those wooden games that have two knobs used to tilt a board, rolling a marble through a maze in an attempt to avoid the holes. To properly simulate one of these games, both paddle controllers are utilized, one to control the vertical movement and the other to control horizontal movement. Because of this, the game is not really playable through emulation when using a keyboard or mouse, but can be enjoyed on real systems (such as through the Cuttle Cart) or using real controllers via emulation (such as with the Stelladaptor). You can download the Marble Craze ROM here and discuss the game in our Atar 2600 Forum with Paul Slocum and other AtariAge visitors. Enjoy! Discuss in our Forum with other visitors...

Steve Engelhardt has created a Windows application called "Create Your Own Adventure" that allows you to visually create new mazes for Atari's classic 2600 game Adventure. Steve is no stranger to Adventure, himself having created an extensive hack of the game titled Adventure Plus. Steve's new editor allows you to modify the Blue and Invisible mazes below the main corridor in Games 2 & 3, and if there is enough interest he may expand the application to allow modification of all the rooms in the game. You can learn more about Create Your Own Adventure in our Hacks Forum, as well as download the application to try your hand at creating new mazes. Discuss in our Forum with other visitors...

Ever think about using a video game to propose to your (hopefully) wife-to-be? One of our forum members has, and he's planning on using an Atari 2600 to display a proposal message on-screen in the middle of a game! Paul Slocum (author of the upcoming Homestar Runner RPG game) has offered his services to modify Donkey Kong so that when the first level is completed, a proposal message will be displayed on-screen. AtariAge will build the cartridge free of charge, and the only remaining missing piece is the custom label! Tim is holding a label design contest for his marriage proposal cart, the winner of which will receive a $25 gift certificate in the AtariAge Store. The contest runs until April 17th, and you can learn all the details and how you can participate by stopping by our Contests Forum. Discuss in our Forum with other visitors...

Those attending last weekend's PhillyClassic 5 gaming expo had the first chance to play the unreleased game Blaster for the Atari 5200. AtariProtos.com and AtariAge have now released the binaries to both the 5200 and 8-bit version so you can enjoy them in your favorite emulators. Blaster is an obscure arcade game created by Williams as a spiritual successor to the popular Robotron: 2084 arcade game. What makes this game more interesting is it was originally conceived and written first for the Atari 400/800, and then ported to the 5200 when the 5200 hardware was finalized. At some point the developers showed the prototype to Williams, who decided they wanted to make an arcade adaptation of the game. Unfortunately, due to the weak video game market in 1984, Blaster was never released as planned by Atari. You can download the 8-bit and 5200 versions of Blaster here, read Matt's full review of Blaster at AtariProtos.com, and discuss the game with other AtariAge visitors in our Prototypes Forum. The authors of Blaster ask that cartridges of this game not be made and sold for profit, and we hope that everyone will respect their wishes. Enjoy! Discuss in our Forum with other visitors...
After the success of the first Arcade to Atari feature, Lee's Peek 'n' Poke has created a second page comparing another slate of classic arcade games with their Atari 2600. Converting an arcade game to run in the limited hardware of the 2600 was a great challenge for Atari's programmers and one that was met with mixed results. In this installment, Lee Bolton compares Donkey Kong, Asteroids, Kangaroo, Battlezone, Popeye, Ms. Pac-Man, Dig Dug, Road Runner, Xevious, and Pole Position. If you'd like to see how your favorites did, please visit Lee's Peek 'n' Poke. Discuss in our Forum with other visitors...
