Have you ever wished you could play Atari's Combat by yourself when you didn't have a friend handy to play against? Thanks to the efforts of Zach Matley, you'll be able to! Zach is developing a version of Combat called Tank AI that allows you to play against the computer! Tank AI will only feature the Tank game of Combat, but several unique mazes will be included. Virtually every game system has had a version of Tetris programmed for it, so it was only a matter of time before someone decided to create one for the Atari 5200. Homebrew author John Swiderski has decided to undertake that endeavor with AtariTris, which features a complete Russian-style soundtrack, several colorful backgrounds, all the standard blocks and rules, selectable levels, and more. Robert Mundschau has released a demo of his upcoming Atari 2600 game Gravity Ball. Your goal in Gravity Ball is to ram and pick up the gravity ball, shooting it into your opponent's goal to score points. You can also shoot at your opponent, as well as activate a gravity generator in your own ship to affect the ball's course. Atari 2600 programmer Eric Ball recently completed Skeleton+, an improved version of his original Skeleton homebrew game. Skeleton+ makes several improvements over the original 3D Shooter, including Life and Skill Counters, an Undead Locator, and a wide variety of difficulty settings to maximize replay value. You can download the Skeleton+ binary and learn more about the changes here, and pick up a copy in cartridge form from the AtariAge Store, complete with an updated label and manual. Sunmark Products has announced the immediate availability of their first Atari 8-bit Multicart. This is the first in a series of Multicarts to be produced by Sunmark, and features 30 unique Atari 8-bit games. The cartridge works on Atari 400/800/XL/XE machines and is being offered at a discounted rate if purchased before June 15th. Organizers of the upcoming Midwest Classic gaming expo have announced that a network of ten Atari ST machines running the classic game MIDI Maze will be on hand for show attendees to enjoy. In MIDI Maze, players move their character, a large smiley face, around the maze to search and destroy other players. MIDI Maze introduced networked, first person shooters to the gaming world, and even after 15 years it's just as much fun to play as ever! For the fifth year, Funspot, the world's largest classic arcade, is sponsoring the world championship of classic pinball & coin-op videogames. Manuel Polik is nearly finished with his latest Atari 2600 homebrew game Star Fire and is distributing Release Candidate 1 to solicit feedback. Star Fire is a 2600 port of the 1979 arcade game of the same name created by David Rolfe and Ted Michon and released by Exidy. Star Fire is a wave-based space shoot'em-up, with several surprises that you won't find in the original arcade game. You can download the binary and view screenshots here. Glenn Bussell has announced the winning entries for his Miniature Golf Plus Contest! Glenn created a Miniature Golf editor and then solicited entries, of which nine were chosen to create a new Miniature Golf Plus binary. Glenn also created a new label for the game, and you can buy a cartridge with this label in the AtariAge Store. Thanks to the efforts of Dragonfire programmer Bob Smith and 2600 homebrew author Dennis Debro, we have been able to post the Dragonfire Source Code. This is Bob Smith's original, commented Dragonfire source so you can see it just as he wrote it over 20 years ago. We've added scans of the Atari Owners Club Bulletin to our growing Magazine Archive. The Atari Owners Club Bulletin was a UK publication that appears to have been started by a company called Ingersoll Electronics and was later picked up officially by Atari. Atari 2600 programmer Fabrizio Zavagli has made available the source code and binaries to Space Treat Deluxe, an improved version of his earlier Space Treat release. In Space Treat Deluxe, you control a ship that must reach the top of the screen, collect the tasty treat located there, and get it back to its base at the bottom. The source code provides valuable insight into what it takes to code a successful Atari 2600 homebrew game. Joe Siegler of 3D Realms has released the binary for the Atari 2600 version of Duke Nukem Forever that was unleashed on the unsuspecting gaming public last April. What's that, you say? Back on April 1st, Joe Siegler revealed the existence of Duke Nukem Forever for the 2600, complete with pictures of labeled carts and screenshots of the game running on a real 2600. Graeme Hinchliffe has written up a detailed guide on how to modify a stock Jaguar with the BJL ROM. Having a BJL-modified Jaguar allows you to upload code directly into the Jaguar's memory via the second controller port, useful for developers who want to program the Jaguar but don't have access to an Alpine development system. The Windows and DOS versions of MESS (Multi Emulator Super System) have been updated to version 0.68. There are many system driver changes in this version, including a complete rewrite of the Atari 2600 driver. The 2600 driver rewrite includes emulation of the 6532 RIOT (RAM, INPUT, OUTPUT, TIMER) chip, cycle count correction in the 6502 core (fixes games like Space Invaders) and a new TIA core.
