 After a long delay between updates, the Globetrotter World Tour has a new website update and location! Globetrotter, or "Trotter" for short, is a homebrew 2600 cartridge that has been traveling the world visiting Atari enthusiasts along the way. He's a huge fan of classic gaming and wants to meet as many fellow fans as possible. Trotter is still going strong after two years and 46 hosts, but there are still plenty of places in the world Trotter would like to visit.  Rainbow Invaders is a new Space Invaders style game for the Atari 2600 from Italian developer Silvio Mogno. While many games of this nature have been released for the 2600 (to say nothing of the countless Space Invaders hacks), Silvio's game adds a breath of fresh air to the genre. Yes, you are shooting at descending waves of alien invaders, attempting to finish them off before they reach the ground. However, the aliens also periodically drop one of 16 random Special Shots, some of which will help and some of which will hinder your efforts if you catch them. Your ship also features a shield that will make you invulnerable for a few seconds, at the expense of not being able to fire again right away.  Version 3.1 of the Atari800MacX Atari 8-bit/5200 emulator for Mac OS X is now available for downloading. Atari800MacX is a native Mac OS X Cocoa port of the popular Atari 800 emulator, which forms the basis for many 8-bit emulators on various platforms. This release includes a few new features but is basically a bug fix release to address issues found in the extensive version 3.0 release.  The Virtual Jaguar emulator has been ported to the portable Sony PSP console by Plynx, who previously released a Lynx emulator for the PSP. The emulator runs slow at this point in time as it was not written from scratch for the PSP, but it does show promise and does accurately run several games.  Steven Tucker has announced that he is now taking pre-orders for the Atarimax ColecoVision 128-in-1 Flash Multicart.  Bruce-Robert Pocock and Jason D. "MayDay" have announced that they have been developing a new Role-Playing Game (RPG) for the Atari 2600. The project, code-named "CiE" for the time being, is a turn-based RPG and uses a menu-based combat and conversational engine as well as a tile-based map system for traveling through the game world. Perhaps unique among 2600 game, CiE uses compiled scripts to drive Non-player character interactions and other gameworld events, allowing the game's designer to write high-level instructions for game events which are then interpreted at runtime. The language (in both source and binary forms) is nicknamed "Ursa." CiE is slated to be a 64K game with plans for a release later this fall. Source code for the game's engine will be freely available, which will allow anyone to write their own game without writing any kernel code.  A new demo of the Atari 5200 homebrew game Adventure II has been released. Adventure II picks up where the classic Atari 2600 game Adventure leaves off, and Ron and crew have been hard at work to bring Adventure fans a worthy successor. As the game nears release, you can pre-order a copy (if you haven't already) in our online store.  The third Vintage Computer Festival East is scheduled to take place Saturday, May 13th, 2006 in Wall Township, New Jersey. The Vintage Computer Festival (VCF) is a celebration of computers and their history, with multiple events typically scheduled throughout the year. Features generally include a series of speakers and workshops, an exhibit of vintage computers, a flea market for the vintage computer collector, and special events such as the Nerd Trivia Challenge. Among the exhibitors at this year's Vintage Computer Festival East will be The Atari History Museum featuring an exhibit focused on Atari's Home Computer Division.  The organizers of CinciClassic
have announced that the 2006 CinciClassic Classic Gaming show will be
held April 7th and 8th at the Fairfield Banquet and Convention Center in
Cincinnati, Ohio. The last show held in 2002 brought in over 800 attendants and 40 vendors, and this year's show promises to be even bigger. CinciClassic focuses on the classic gaming systems from the 70's and 80's,
including systems from Atari, Intellivision, Colecovision, Vectrex and
many more. Many of these systems will be setup for play throughout the show and attendees will also be able to partake in various tournaments. And of course you'll be able to augment your classic gaming collection thanks to the vendors who'll be on-hand at the event.  Version 2.1 of the Atari 2600 emulator Stella is now available for downloading. Version 2.1 of Stella includes several new features, improvements to existing features, and bug fixes.  Whether you love or hate E.T. The Extra Terrestrial for the Atari 2600, you'll want to check out this new Wintergreen music video, When I Wake Up. The video explores the infamous "E.T. Landfill" episode in Atari's history, where they supposedly buried truckloads of E.T. carts in a New Mexico landfill, a topic that repeatedly comes up in our forums.  There were many great entries submitted to the Strat-O-Gems Deluxe Label Contest, and it fell on programmer John Payson to choose a single entry from those submitted. After much deliberation, John chose one of Jeff Crouch's designs as the label to grace the shipping version of Strat-O-Gems Deluxe. Jeff's winning label design now appears on all copies of Strat-O-Gems Deluxe sold through the AtariAge Store, including the cover of the manual put together by Tony Morse.  Atari Lynx fans who also own a Sony PSP are in for a treat, as version 0.82 of PLynx, a Lynx emulator for the PSP, has been released. PLynx is a new PSP port of the excellent Windows Handy Lynx emulator, and you can view some screenshots of PLynx in action here.  Atari Jaguar developer 3D Stooges has announced their new Jaguar homebrew game Gorf Classic. Based on the popular Midway arcade game of the same name, Gorf Classic for the Jaguar faithfully reproduces all the levels from the arcade. Your objective in Gorf is to defend the universe against the five unique waves of the Gorfian Invasion, culminating in the destruction of the Gorfian flagship!
